Yes this is a known error, due to missing textures if I'm not mistaken but there's nothing you can do to fix it as of right now. Hopefully this will be fixed in upcoming updates and hopefully you will have the pet you wished for.

It appears as white to you? To me it appears as an eye-melting yellow and black.

That's normally due to what mode you're in (full screen, windowed). If you're playing in the windowed version, NORMALLY blank/missing textures show up as white, but if you're in fullscreen mode, it tends to show up as black and yellow.

Actually it depends on which rendering system you use. One will display yellow and black tiles for missing textures, and the other will just display it as full white
