Changing dimensions just allows you to go to another, well, "dimension" of a map and it will spawn new prey in case you wanted to get a certain one to spawn, but it didn't in the default dimension (0). People also switch the dimension in case they want to make a trade since technically anyone can take items that have been dropped in dim 0.
