Game crashes!
« on: January 16, 2015, 12:05:20 AM »
My game crashes every time I try to play it.

It always crashes after I picked a character and try to go into the world. I hear music playing but the loading screen won't disappear and I get an error message that says the game run out of memory. But I have a very powerful computer so I don't know why it does that x.x

Plleaaassee I need help.

Yeah, I'm having a similar problem except when it's trying to load my characters it crashes. I turned it on the lowest possible graphics I could, yet it still crashes. My dad said the new computer I have is a powerful one as well, how is this possible?

Are you using direct3d? Switch to windowed mode and set a lower resolution

Yeah, I tried that and it still crashes. When I tested it out in OpenGL, the screen is pixely and messed up to where I can't see it clearly. About resolution, do you mean the game or the computer? If its the game, I don't I can because I lowered the graphics to 0 and turned all of the extras off and it still does it. If it's the computer, will it affect anything else?

The game worked fine for me before, so I don't know why it crashes now.

My dad says it's almost as powerful as his and it played just fine on there.

Ran out of memory? That is odd it sounds like you may have too many processes running in the background, check your task manager and see if any processes spike up really high.

For me, it shows the error message "game.exe has stopped working" and the options to close the program or check online for a solution and close it.

Maybe you're running something else that's hogging the video ram

This game uses DirectX 9 right? It disappeared so when I tried to install it again it said I already had it on there, plus, what does "Unity Web player requires DX9 level graphics card. Make sure you have graphics card drivers installed." mean?

Yes it uses DX9 or OpenGL, go make your own thread instead of messing up other peoples threads.

Warning: This post might cause major lagging for some people. I'm not trying to spam in any way what so ever, just trying to be as helpful and accurate as possible. If your okay with that, continue reading.

What type of computer are you using?

You don't have to be exact, but it's kind of confusing if we don't know the type of computer you're using.

Have you played games with similar graphics but lacked certain things that Last Moon features?

Maybe it has enough memory to play a certain game because Last Moon has to use more memory to process the stuff that the other game doesn't have. If you played Feral Heart for example, it wouldn't have to use memory to animate spawns like this game needs to because it doesn't have any.

Do the background or characters look choppy?

When Last Moon tried to load for me, most of the background had low resolution (mainly the water).

Are you able to go into the character creator? If so, does it lag when you when you put certain features on it and smooths out after a little bit or when you change it?

I was able to test it on Feral Heart because obviously I can't go into  on LM. I know the games are totally different, but the character creator is basically the same: Markings, manes, color options, etc. Does it do something different?

Does it just do it on certain characters or on all of them?

Maybe the one of characters had certain things on it that was available at the time you made it but the game updated and it's no longer available. For example I have a deer with a mane that I created when I first started the game, but the last time I went into the creator and tried to make a new character the option for a mane was not there anymore on the deer. This never affected my gameplay though. In your case, a character may have been really old like this or had previous features on it that were taken off and when the game updated, it tried to delete the file for it since it's no longer available in the game, "breaking" the character. I highly doubt this happened since I was able to play the game with my deer just fine after the option was gone. If you installed a certain version of the game without any previous versions on another computer, maybe it's missing a file that saying that the character has something but it bypassed this to avoid "breaking" as mentioned above and your computer is confused because it put something on the character when it wasn't told that it was supposed to be there, going against the instructions. I'm pretty sure
this is very unlikely to happen, unless you had an account when the game was in it's beta-testing and got away with having unreleased stuff on your character until now. Which, I highly doubt anyone did unless it was a staff member or the game owner. I think they would've deleted their character by now after updating so much. This probably rarely ever happened to anybody in the game, but after the game updates so many times this could happen in the future. Your problem probably has something to do with graphics, since the game hasn't been around long enough to come to that point for just yet. But it would be kinda cool if this game lasted a long time and people would wonder why I have a mane on my deer when people can't get it anymore. Sorry for such a long theory. If the game is that successful, this could actually happen to some older players after a number of updates, so watch out. Anyways, moving on.

Before this happened, did you ever crash after you went through a certain portal on a public map?

I had this issue a while back when my game always crashed when my character went through the portal that takes you to Pirate Island. It only did it on that particular one that I know of, the rest were just fine. I could see the orb normally, too. After that, it continued to crash if I used that exact character. I think it said the game ran out of memory too.

When you create a new character and try to get in, will it let you?

Maybe the update glitched somewhere and doesn't allow previously created characters in the game like it's supposed to. If not, it's probably something else.

Hopefully, this helped, and if some of it doesn't, it might help other people with problems like this if their posts got locked and they couldn't find suitable answers.

What type of computer are you using?

Windows 7 64-bit
GeForce GTX 670 ex oc
16GB RAM
Intel i7-3770k

Have you played games with similar graphics but lacked certain things that Last Moon features?

I don't know. I played GTA 4, Alien Isolation and all that stuff with high end graphics.

Do the background or characters look choppy?

Nope.

Are you able to go into the character creator? If so, does it lag when you when you put certain features on it and smooths out after a little bit or when you change it?

I'm able to get into the character creator and there are no lags whatsoever.

Does it just do it on certain characters or on all of them?

On all of them.

Before this happened, did you ever crash after you went through a certain portal on a public map?

Yes, a few times when I tried to enter the Portal Island. But the music that I hear before it crashes is a different one than the Portal Island music.

When you create a new character and try to get in, will it let you?

Nope.

It should be impossible to run out of VRAM with a 670. Try deleting your ogre.cfg and run with the default dx9 settings
