You can get items by buying them from the bazaar. The portal is located in PI (Portal Island) inside a cart, its the rainbow looking portal. However items cost and you'll need cha ching, so pop into the purple portal thats the horse of the cart to grab yourself a quest. Complete the quest and wam bam you got some spending money.

OR without being confusing; hunt any fauna roaming the portal's that lead to different islands/lands. Sometimes they drop broken medals which can be turned into bronze within the bazaar (2 broken = 1 bronze.).

Fauna don't just drop medals, they will also drop items. Most common: glowsticks, I love LM Notes, etc.
Some others are horn accessories, rainbow items (inside Rainbow Falls), and a whole lot more you can get via roaming and completing quests within Last Moon.
