Title: [Tutorial] Preset texturing with Darenn
Post by: Darenn on August 12, 2016, 03:21:09 PM

This is still a work in progress

Y'all probably already know what a preset is. There are plenty of tutorials including coding templates and how to set it up.

  • RESOURCES:
       Paint Tool SAI (http://www.mediafire.com/download/s96gm2jv4y56gqa/Sai+1.1.0.zip)
       Texture Maps (UVS) (http://www.kitopen.com/t7-playable-character-uv-texture-maps)
       Ogre Meshy (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ogremeshy/files/1.4%20%28Ogre%201.8.0%29/OgreMeshy-1.4-Win32.exe/download)

Once you've done that, select the bottom layer and fill it up with color. Work on your preset below the UV. All of it.

Working around seams:
This is a common issue almost everyone has while texturing something.
A seam is a specific area of the model where the UV ends - it means it
was cropped there to unwrap the model.
Let's picture a bear. You take the bear, and you unwrap it. It would be
equal to a rug of a bear. We color the rugs and wrap it back on the bear.
We have to cut somewhere to unwrap the bear. That's how texturing
works. Same goes for presets. Where the cuts meet, it is a seam. If you
color the two opposing sides with different, or slightly different shade of
color, you will notice a sharp, off-looking edge.
It is a seam. They have to match.

The seams are awful monsters - they ruin the aesthetic and professionalism of your texture.
