Holy hell is it bright...In my opinion, it's WAY too bright and cartoony. I like the current LM style better.

Holy hell is it bright...In my opinion, it's WAY too bright and cartoony. I like the current LM style better.

Thank you for the opinion, but it should be expected that this is not the only colour palette that will be present in the updates, what is presented is a vibrant, bright optimistic meadow. Another alternative palette is the one in the muted forest in the artwork presented. Another colour palette is the Hub and Labyrintia map. There will be different palettes depending on mood, terrain ie: sad, dark, gloomy, neutral, cold and of course bright, and the easiest way to bring a player into a certain mood is through colours (because the minimal semantic value of colour is emotion/mood). So you should have no fear of it all being bright and happy.  :P I might give the colours a less bright tweak though. What do the rest of you guys think? Tad too bright or fine as is?

However could you perhaps elaborate on the 'too cartoony' bit? The current environment presented is no less cartoony than the very player models themselves.

The sad fact is, LM (and many other IT spinoffs) have no style, it is a mismatch of cartoony player models, low poly prey with realistic textures, cartoony WoW models, realistic plants from other sites, cartoony plants from WoW, original IT plants and meshes, pixelated ground textures and none of which fit with eachother. Could you also elaborate on how this is better?

 ;)

Development has been slowed down significantly due upcomming bothers.
Please continue voicing issues on bits ya don't like and bits ya like very much ^^
Don't forget, this here is a good opportunity for appearance based suggestios and questions!

I believe that this style would be fitting for a server that has planned for this appearance from the start, and the appearance does fit the LM characters. Not to mention it is bright, giving the game a lively appearance.

(Nostalgic Concerns)
However, I must add that it's heartbreaking to see a semi-old game changed so drastically. I don't think it'll feel like LM so to speak, especially to the older users(Older in the sense that they've been playing the game longer). Not to mention the various textures in LM, almost all of them, which won't fit into the style after the update. These seem like they'll be forgotten, along with their potential for some brilliant maps. Additionally, we'll have half of the server with the current/less painted maps and half with the newer maps. This too would cause disconnections, since the world as a whole would have two different styles.
The concept art is beautiful, and the grass textures are especially eye-catching. I just can't come to terms with all of LM's progress over the years being forgotten/overshadowed(Especially when new users flock to the newer maps), and this style will be required do just that.

But if this update were to advance, I'd have to say that those wheat-type grass textures would be the ideal textures. They appear neatly shaded, but they aren't advanced into a super realistic style. To match that to say, the terrain, some smaller grains/clumps of dirt could be added. Details and shading could possibly down the cartoonishness, yet still provide the painted look for the update.

My main concern is simply how much LM will change, especially all of the sudden. Other than that, I think the grasses and at least half of the new textures look quite nice.  ;D

While I can not speak for Ves in total, I can say that we have discussed and talked about this. We will not be removing old content, so it is all here to stay so that older players like yourself and others have the same Last Moon we have always had-- only with a bit of shine up front. We want what we put forward to be cohesive and make sense to the world that Ves has in mind, but I assure you the old will be tied in with the new in an easily accessible manner.

The wheat type grasses are indeed beautiful, and seem to be favourite.

if you don't know how to propperly assign the grass mask and texture, the grass will look awful.
You all know default?
This is how the grass is supposed to be coloured:

If I add extra shading, it has to be blue-green-azure, if not the grass colour looks dead and bleh. (i tried out shading on the painted grass, it looks as unremarkable as the original grass.)
But look what pretty seaweed we have now! I made the 'shader' layer of the seaweed tinted blue.

The grass can and likely will be used to create small pebbles on the ground, or snowpiles, so that your character literally sinks in the snow ^^

Sadly I haven't found a way to include multiple grasses into one map. So we'll likely have to supliment it with hand-placed foliage.

HERE IS A SNEAK PEAK FOR JUNGL-Y STUFF

(ignore the ugly terrain lmao)
This is defo a nice cartoony foliage, but it's all nicely detailed.
We will have some colour coordination problems xD

On the Nostalgia thing, that defo was a concern and we'll keep the old and the new as two seperate entities with a 'bridge' in between, so that the 'drastic' new and old maps won't intermingle like wet and cold water like you were concerned about. The old maps will be left as the old devs left them.

As far as textures go, you're right. The tree one specifically looks unremarkable. So back to the drawing board hoho...
For now I'll leave the grass as is and create some more object meshes and prey. After that i'll make sure what whatever grass gets added, it'll fit.

I'll add some hella last/first/mid words up on the OP
