Am I allowed to have more than one pet in the game?

I have currently already tamed a brown rabbit, and if I try to tame another animal I want, it says ''Tame Failed'', even if the animal has a tiny bit of its health left, I just wanted to know if I can have more than one pet in the game, and if I can't, how do I get rid of the rabbit I already have?

You can only have one pet per character. If you wish to tame a different one on that characters, just type /releasepet
